Disappointing

My first post on the movie 2001 a space odyssey was anything but detailed. I chose it to do it that way similar to what Kubrick chose to do in his screenplay. Kubrick’s smartness lied in the fact that he exposed very little of the mystery so that the viewer would not loose interest in the narration even as the story unravels at a slow pace.

There is not a single frame in 2001, which shows us the world known to us. Due to which the viewer felt a feeling of isolation. However, in the sequel the very first frame throws away the eerie atmosphere Kubrick was able to create. Peter hyams thus chose to be different. Furthermore, the information he feeds us with of the first mission is indication enough that this film would not be anything like 2001 atleast in its narration. The first 30 minutes of 2010 will dissolve any expectations one had of the film having seen 2001.

The attention to detail that Kubrick paid certainly was missing and it is not fair to expect the same sort of ingenuity and meticulousness from anyone else.  2010 looks convincing with its computer graphics but it lacks the believability that 2001 carried. Especially the centrifuge of the discovery with its console units and the hibernation pads looked so convincing. The scenes involving bowman jogging through the centrifuge and his watching transmissions from earth are breathtaking and I doubt if ever cinematography would reach levels set by 2001. 2010 however lacks such grandeur. The probing of Europa was created well though and it was intense one should admit.  I cannot help but say that space depicted in 2010 was not the same as done by Kubrick. It lacked the vastness though it did not seem to be artificial. I can bet the scenes showing the craters of moon will remain the most authentic and beautifully created scenes for ages to come.

The first aspect that should have earlier pointed out is 2010 is dated unlike 2001.The cold war is unnecessarily lug on to the film. The scene showing the discovery orbiting one of the moons of Jupiter was not all that convincing. The characters seemed to speak to much though one would have the propensity to say such a thing of any other film after watching 2001.

Peter hyams did his best in filming one of the most prolific Sci-Fi stories ever written and his job was made more difficult because Kubrick made 2001. To be honest I would have liked it better if 2010 was never made at all. 2001 deserved a better sequel.  I doubt if any filmmaker has the tenacity to film the other two editions. I also doubt if any filmmaker will be able to portray space better. I doubt if any filmmaker has the scrupulousness that Kubrick had. I doubt if any filmmaker can make hypnotizing pieces of art. In this post, I have merely tried to indicate the aberration in 2010 from 2001, let alone other aspects like the use of music, the use of allegories. I would like to post on these later.

the week that was not

This year the monsoon gave no warnings as if the corporation would react to one.indian space research organization launched chandrayaan 1 into orbit but there is no way the water logging in our area be solved.for 10 years now the street in which i reside gets disconnected and transforms itself to an island when the monsoon sets in.

monday:
i started a bit late for college and 10 minutes was all the clouds could resist.the rainfall was so dense that i could not see any vehicles before me.i somehow thought i can continue and kept biking.i was wet to say the least.thats it for the day

tuesday:
i woke up to images above.i had studied for todays assessments.the thought of escaping an assessment is the most invigorating thing and many would admit.strangely on these days you want to find the college/school not workin for youself,so i decided to start.but the sheer water logging put me off.later it was confirmed that the college is not working

wednesday:
my friend and i reached college just at the right time.we gathered before the geology department of our college under cover and just opposite to this was our department and our class rooms in which we were supposed to write our assessments.rains started and for an hour no one dared crossing over.we left college after fireworks,a transformer i think burst.i reached my home?
my home was inundated.2 inch water inside our living room.toilets cannot be used.and for all the recenr power crisis and tabled power cut we were lighted till the very last moment when we decided to leave the islands.in my grandmas home i got some sleep and i was sure we will not be having college tomo but still i prepared for the test and how.i didnt have books for that so i had to sail to my friends home to get the book, sail back to get a xerox and return it back to him.during this endeavour i found even some of the driest places was water logging.we were not alone.and after getting the notes i studied a bit.i think around 10 at night it was declared a holiday.

thursday:
we came back home after washing away the rooms.normally when it was supposed to be a holiday for rains it never does rain.the day was bright.

friday:
after much of negotiations they say we had the scheduled assessments.and i left college.on my way i picked up one of my friends and i decided to go to his house.we were seeing videos in his home for few hours.good videos.good stuff.for the weather it was good.my mom called me and siaid it had started raining again.i went outside and was shocked the streets were full of water after just 10 minutes of downpour.i thought if i wait for the rain to stop it would be curtains for my bike engine and so i left my friends home.i glided past the kodambakkam railway road beach and reached my home.my mom had a fever.i was pissed of by these rains and deciced to watch a movie on my pc.fargo.i got this from my friend after watchin no country for old men.thought it was damn good.and fargo didnt dissappoint me.the murders happening were chilling but suddenly i felt too chill.it was water creeping under my legs which i rested on the floor.it has happened again.living rooms visited by water.we left our homes for the second time and reached my grandmas home.it was a adventurous journey.the guy demanded 50 bugs to drop us few hundred metres further after we reached the road end.such was the plight of our locality.

i will return with the weekend stories in a bit.

Patch Tuesday

On the second Tuesday of every month, Microsoft releases a list of known vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system. The company issues patches for those security holes at the same time, which is why the day is known as "Patch Tuesday." Viruses written and launched on Patch Tuesday to hit unpatched systems are known as "zero-day" attacks. Thankfully, the major anti-virus vendors work with Microsoft to identify holes ahead of time, so if you keep your software up to date and patch your system promptly, you shouldn't have to worry about zero-day problems.

how i too became one.....

I think i was fifth when india toured zimbabwae and varicella zoster virus invaded my immune system.Chicken pox meant 1 week break from classes.that too it was a week when we had tests so cyano bacteria who i believe is god was very kind. That was the week when i first felt what heroism is.india needed 240 runs to win.so what? But they needed to get those runs in 40 overs to qualify for the finals of the tournament based on the net run rate.

Earlier in the tournament i found what vengeance,counter-attack,dominance meant from the very same person who made us qualify for the finals. And so did henry olanga.

In the same year i witnessed what i would call butchering of spin bowling. The rough created by the australian pace attack was really rough and the greatest spinner to have born on earth warne some may argue pitched all of em on the rough,we all know how he spins em.he was hit i think for 5 sixers against the turn may i add.One of them came to the stand from where i was watching the game.
Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is my hero.
Immortal hero.

EVOLVE

I went blank an evening.i was thinking of the plot,i was thinking how was this made 40 years before,i was cursing myself for thinking only speilberg could do science fiction movies,i was thinking how could a director leave a film unfolding itself with only imageries and inspiring music for the first 40 minutes,i was thinking how man has evolved then i realised i wasnt thinking i was watching 2001:A SPACE ODYSSEY
